I often get asked for website tips for authors and other website and business owners, so I’ve created a quick image and PDF of five very simple things you can learn to do for your website.
Transcript:
- Make all OUTGOING WEBSITE LINKS to OTHER sites like Amazon, Pinterest, Twitter etc “open in new window” (WP: select text to link — click Insert/Edit link – click Open Link in New Window – Save). If you don’t do this, viewers will be taken away from your site and might forget to come back.
- Before uploading images, CHANGE THE JPG NAME to match the title of your Blog Post or Web Page (which is also your Keyword Phrase), so instead of: 13134124120-14314.jpg change it to excerpt-from-chapter-one-of-my-new-book-about-twinkling-faeries.jpg
- Before uploading, REDUCE THE WEIGHT of all images because this slows down your page-load and visitors get bored waiting. Upload up to 20 images at a time to http://TINYJPG.com and convert to lightweight versions of your images.
- During the image upload to your site, make sure to add your Keyword Phrase into the ALT description, for example : Excerpt from Chapter One of my new book about Twinkling Faeries (WP: add Media, add ALT info on right, Insert)
- If you have any meetings, author talks, visits etc planned, add them for free to Eventbrite.com and make a great Profile for your business/author website — make sure to add a juicy link back to your website. You can add as many ‘events’ as you like.
